Eight Bristol homes showcasing insulation of internal or external solid walls and / or floors will be open for the public to learn from the householders or builders about a range of solutions and outcomes. There is an excellent range of houses from across the city including four homes not open in September and some reaching extremely high technical standards.

To provide a quality learning experience the householders or builders will be giving scheduled talks at specific times in which they share their knowledge and stories.

            

Four 60 minute sessions will be held at:

  • 10.00 a.m
  • 12.00 a.m
  • 14.30 p.m
  • 16.30 p.m

All visits must therefore be booked in advance through our booking system WHICH HAS NOW CLOSED. All visits are free. A maximum of 10 visitors per session.

The homes are

Upper Belmont Road, St Andrews, BS7


A Victorian Terrace over 4 floors, with a recent loft extension featuring high levels of breathable insulating materials. Additional insulating measures include underfloor draft exclusion, cavity wall insulation using polystyrene balls and loft insulation. This house was featured in our September event.

Carnarvon Road, Redland, BS6


A whole house retrofit/refurbishment of a large Victorian semi-detached property. As well as underfloor and loft insulation, the solid brick walls have been internally insulated throughout, using Quinntherm insulating material. These features, amongst others, have contributed to achieving a high energy efficiency rating for the property. This house was featured in our September event and had over 300 visits each day. It is part of the Refit West project.

Redland Hill, Redland, BS6

 
A 1930s detached house that has undergone an extreme eco-refurbishment, achieving a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions. Insulating measures include underfloor and loft. All solid walls have been externally insulated using a Polyisocynurate board and render finish. Lucy's home is on the Old home Superhome network.

Cotham Road South, Cotham, BS6

   
A Victorian mid-terrace that has been converted into privately rented flats. The property has been thoroughly insulated using natural materials where possible. The top floor flat has sheeps wool insulation internally to the solid brick walls. This house was featured in our September event.

Vivian Street, Windmill Hill, BS3
  

A Victorian mid-terrace in the process of an on-going refurbishment project. The external solid walls have been insulated using a timber-framed lining system and sheeps wool insulation, giving an improvement on u-values from 2.24w/m2k to 0.3w/m2k. A Victorian end-terrace, purchased in 1999, and at the time uninhabitable. This house demonstrates a refurbishment that includes external wall insulation to the solid brick walls on the rear & side elevations using Kingspan insulation board and a lime render finish. Other insulating features include loft and underfloor. This home is new to Bristol Green Doors. Welcome!

Easton Road, Easton, BS5

       

A Georgian mid-terrace house having undergone a complete refurbishment and hoping to be the first UK house to meet new EnerPHit (PassivHaus for retrofit) standard of energy efficiency. The house is heavily insulated, including internal and external insulation of solid brick walls to achieve a u-value rating of 0.15w/m2/k and has many other elements to make energy efficient.The building is a White Design - Technology Strategy Board (TSB) joint project for social landlord (Self Help Community Housing Association). A new build development (still in the process of construction) that has been designed to PassivHaus standards. The new construction is heavily insulated well in excess of current building regulations for walls, floor and roof. The building is a Greenheart building project for a private client.
