Learning
Bristol Green Doors offers people the chance to learn about what can be done to their own home to make it more energy efficient by meeting householders whose homes have already been improved. People learn in different ways and we know visitors to our events find hearing real people’s stories informative and valuable.
96% of people described our September 2010 event as “a good way to learn” and 70% were "more likely to install related solutions" as a result of attending.
“It was most useful seeing it place in a local house and talking to someone who knows what they are talking about” – Visitor September 2010

"The best things were finding out how other people made decisons" - Visitor September 2010
"Talking to homeowners who have made changes which we are looking to make on our property and getting details of tradesmen and materials was really useful" - Visitor September 2010

Bristol University and Matthew Cole in particular have been analysing the economic impact of Bristol Green Doors 2010. Thanks to all visitors to last September’s event for your contributions. The study assesses how visitors have taken retrofitting action in their homes following the event. It looks at this in two stages, six months and on year after the evnt. The first part is now completed and available here.
Courses
When most of our homes were built, no-one would have anticipated how unsuited they would to be to the demands of modern living! Whether you are an owner-occupier, landlord, tenant, builder or architect it is clearly in your interests to increase your understanding of the performance of your or others’ homes.
There is increasing demand and potential for work in the domestic refurbishment sector and a range of retrofitting themed courses are taking place all the time around Bristol aimed at householders, trades, and professionals provided by the following:
Courses coming up include:
Running Open Ecohomes events
Do you want to run an open eco-homes event? Kate and I are now working alongside Fran and Micha from Brighton and James from Norfolk with the Energy Saving Trust on toolkits, mentoring packages and resources for other potential open eco-homes event organisers. It has been great to meet with them and develop what we are doing alongside them.
